The story we hear over and over again from our clients is this –
"if my work, partner, children, extended family and other personal responsibilities are okay then I am okay."
In our 2-hour introductory workshop, we aim to turn this story on its head, and debunk the superhero myth.
We believe that if you want more balance in your life, more energy and capacity, an ability to sustain serious pressure at work, stave off depression and stress then you need to consciously put yourself first and implement practices for personal sustainability.
The question we will answer is:
“how do you put yourself first in a value set that prioritises the needs of others before your own?”
What will I get out of Participation?
• An understanding of what we mean by personal sustainability and how this approach can help you build capacity and sustain high levels of performance
• A better understanding of your needs from a whole person perspective - on a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level.
• How to prioritize your needs such that you can be at your best day-in, day-out
• A personal sustainability plan for pursuing your needs and putting theory into practice
Workshop Format
Pre-work
• Reflection on your needs using the Personal Sustainability Chart
• Answer some basic questions about current reality state
Welcome and introduction
We will begin our session with examples and lessons drawn from our “Change through Challenge” programmes - the successes as well as the failures. And how it is that time and time again, the solution for more energy, capacity, effectiveness, positive change is the ability to put yourself first.
Three main sections:
• Understanding needs – we will explore the difference between needs and wants, as well as different needs on different levels. We may understand our physical needs but do we understand our emotional needs or our spiritual needs?
• Prioritizing needs – we will discuss the issues around prioritizing our needs, how we choose what is important. Are we able to express these needs once we’ve identified them
• Pursuing needs – we will put together an action plan for putting our needs first; we will make commitments and pledges to carry forward. |
