The idea is simple – to cross the Mont Blanc massif from Italy to France. The execution is a little more tricky.

When you look at the map, there appears to be an obvious traverse via two glaciers that meet in a ridge in the middle of the massif. One glacier, the Glacier du Miage, flows into France. And the other, confusingly named the Glacier de Miage, flows into Italy.
The tour involves every aspect of mountaineering – walking on glaciers, scrambling up steep rocky ridges, basic rock climbing sections, long walk-ins and staying in refuges. Not the ordinary crowded variety but the remotest and wildest in these mountains.
