There is something incredibly satisfying about looking at a map and seeing where you have come from and where you’ve got to, especially if it’s straight over a mountain range.

The alps traverse has this effect taking you from France over into Switzerland. After the event, you can’t believe you’ve walked all that way, up to a refuge, stayed the night, over that glacier, onto the Trient Plateau, over to the Trient refuge, stayed another night, down the Arpette valley and into Champex. And that’s having taken in a 3000m peak - the Aiguille du Tour.
Not bad for a first mountain experience.
